Getting married or forming a civil partnership

So much is written about weddings and civil partnerships that it may seem slightly daunting but we have put some information together to help guide you through the process as easily as possible.

Where shall we say “I do”

The most exciting decision to make is where you wish to have your ceremony and you have a number of choices:

  • As a registration service we have some lovely ceremony rooms throughout the county. We have a range of packages you can choose from depending on when you wish to hold your ceremony and how many guests you wish to have
  • Additionally there are 70 plus venues in Buckinghamshire that are licensed to hold legal civil weddings and these range from stately homes, to barns, sporting venues and hotels. Our Ruby package is available would allow us to conduct your legal ceremony at a venue
  • If you may wish to marry in a religious venue we can offer you advice
  • You may be planning a wedding abroad

To enquire about or book a ceremony in registration service room; or to book a registrar in one of the licensed venues please call 01494 475 092 or email ceremonies@buckinghamshire.gov.uk.

Please note that full payment will be taken at time of booking, for more information, see our fees page.

There are some legal preliminaries that must be completed prior to a civil wedding/civil partnership or for a wedding in a non Church of England place of worship.

You and your partner must attend the register office in the district in which you live for a Notice of Marriage/Notice of Civil Partnership appointment.

This is a legal process and you will need to bring in various documents and there is a statutory fee for the appointment.

There is a minimum waiting period of 28 days before the ceremony can go ahead following this appointment. If you are a Buckinghamshire resident you need to book at Notice of Marriage/Notice of Civil Partnership appointment.
